Role Description

We are seeking a skilled Volunteer Backend Developer to join our team and help strengthen the technical foundation behind RISE2GETHER’s digital platforms. In this role, you will work closely with frontend engineers to design and build scalable, secure, and reliable backend services and APIs that support our programs, events, and community initiatives. Your work will ensure that our systems are efficient, resilient, and easy to maintain—enabling a seamless experience for our members and amplifying our mission to empower Asian women through technology and connection.

Responsibilities

As a Volunteer Backend Developer , you will:

  • Contribute to the design of scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable backend services and APIs.

  • Write clean, high-quality, and reusable code for cloud-based services with a focus on scalability and reliability.

  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.

  • Collaborate with frontend engineers and product teams to define API contracts and ensure seamless integration.

  • Optimize database queries and data models for performance and scalability.Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure service reliability.

  • Maintain security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data protection.

Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who bring most of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, etc.

  • Has hands-on experience deploying and managing services on cloud environment such as Azure, AWS , GCP or equivalent platform.

  • Familiarity with HTTP, networking principles, and API design patterns beneficial to AI integrations

  • Fluency in Git for version control and collaboration within a team.

  • Self-directed, with the ability to take ownership of projects while collaborating closely across teams.
